While finding antique cookbooks is like finding lost treasure, even more fun is coming across handwritten recipes and household management notes from prior owners.
Inside this manuscript, such a recipe, or partial recipe, was included. The writing refers to “makeng Doughing” and making “cak” which includes the ingredient “shugger” “4 eggs” and “beat sepereately untill light”. Signed “Katie O Sullivan”, and below that, in similar handwriting, “Katie Moudzo” and in a different handwriting “Katie Monde”. Perhaps Ms. Katie had three different last names throughout her ownership of this book.
Much is written about the potatoe, and imporant family food crop, as you can in the picture below.
